Heavy Rain in Northern Calhoun County

A storm producing heavy amounts of rain is now located in northern Calhoun County. The NWS has issued a flood advisory. Text below:

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued an* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for... northwestern Calhoun County in east central Alabama... south central Etowah County in northeast Alabama... this includes the city of Markton... * until 800 PM CDT* at 457 PM CDT heavy rainfall from a nearly stationary thunderstorm was producing rainfall rated in excess of three inches per hour. Areas of particular concern are in and around Ohatchee creek. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Additional rainfall amounts of two to three inches is possible in the warned area.Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded, roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
